FAQs
Every important
question, answered.
If something is not covered here, please write to the studio and we will answer it — and then add it, so the next person does not have to ask.
Getting started
- I have never done Pilates — can I still come?
- Yes. Most of our clients begin with no Pilates experience at all. Every new client starts with an Introduction: a 50-minute private, then a group class.
- Do I need to be flexible or fit to begin?
- No. Flexibility and strength are results of practice, not prerequisites for it. The method meets you exactly where you are.
- What is the difference between classical and contemporary Pilates?
- Classical Pilates follows the complete method as Joseph Pilates taught it — the original order, apparatus and choreography. Contemporary Pilates is a modernised interpretation. Coconut teaches the classical method.
- How often should I practise?
- Joseph Pilates recommended three times a week. In practice, two considered sessions a week is a reasonable starting point. Consistency matters more than intensity.
The studio
- Where is the studio?

- What are your opening hours?
- Monday to Friday 07:00–20:30 and Saturday to Sunday 08:00–13:00. Timetable varies by term — see the timetable page for the current schedule.
- Is the studio accessible?
- The studio is on one level with step-free access. If you have specific requirements, please write to us in advance so we can prepare the space and choose the right teacher.

Booking and payment
- How do I book?
- All booking is in the Coconut app — classes, privates, workshops and memberships in one place. The Book page links you straight there.
- Do I need to create an account to book?
- You will create a Coconut account the first time you book in the app — it stores your bookings, membership and cancellation history in one place.
- What is the cancellation policy?
- Group classes may be cancelled up to twelve hours before the start time; privates require twenty-four hours. Late cancellations use the credit.
- Do you offer gift cards?
- Yes — physical gift cards printed on plantable seed paper, from £25 to £50, valid for twelve months and redeemable across classes, memberships, private sessions and workshops. E-vouchers are also available in the Coconut app.
Injuries and specialisms
- I am injured or recovering from surgery — can I still practise?
- In most cases, yes. Classical Pilates is used in rehabilitation settings worldwide. Please write to us with details beforehand so we can pair you with the right teacher and begin with private sessions.
- Do you teach during pregnancy or postpartum?
- Yes — our Pre & Post Natal specialism is taught by teachers with additional training. See the Pre & Post Natal specialism page for detail.
- Do you work with older clients?
- Yes. The Healthy Ageing specialism is one of the reasons Pilates exists — the method was written for the whole of life.
Online
- When does Coconut Online launch?
- Live online classes launch in Spring 2027, with the on-demand library, programmes and teachers' library following in stages. Register your interest on the Online page to be notified when each opens.
- Will there be a mobile app?
- Yes. The Coconut app is available now on iPhone and Android — both store links are on the App page. Use it to book classes and private sessions, manage your bookings and memberships, and join waitlists.
