Barre
Small moves,
honest burn.
A barre class is a low-impact workout at a ballet barre — small, precise movements that work the legs, glutes and core without pounding the joints. At Coconut it is taught by Grace, a former Royal Ballet dancer, with a Pilates teacher's eye for how you are standing.

The session
What a barre class is.
You spend most of the class at the barre, working through short ranges of movement — a pulse here, a held shape there. The movements look modest and feel considerable, which is rather the point.
The breath and the centre stay part of the work throughout. It is not ballet: no shoes, no tights and no experience of dance are needed. Comfortable clothing and grippy socks are enough.
Who it suits
Strong legs, an easy back.
People come to barre for the legs and the waist, and stay for the posture. Because there is no impact, it sits comfortably alongside private Pilates, rehabilitation and the months after a baby.
Classes are small, so your teacher corrects you individually rather than calling shapes into a room.
