Injury & Rehabilitation

Injury rehabilitation,
beyond discharge.

Classical Pilates can bridge the gap between acute treatment and full return to life or sport. If you are recovering from injury, or a physiotherapist looking for the next step after discharge, the distinction matters.

Injury rehabilitation,

The apparatus was built for this

Rehabilitation, first.

Joseph Pilates designed his method in a WWI internment camp to rehabilitate injured soldiers using springs, ropes and resistance. The apparatus he built — reformer, Cadillac, wunda chair, barrels — were originally rehabilitation equipment. That rehabilitative origin still shapes how we teach: the springs let us grade load precisely, support a movement before we strengthen it, and progress at the pace the body allows.

Why athletes keep getting the same injuries

Look at the pattern, not only the site.

Most sports create predictable patterns of asymmetry and overuse. A cricketer bowls from one side. A footballer favours a dominant foot. A rugby player scrums from a fixed position week after week. Over time the body compensates, adapts, and the compensation becomes the injury.

Classical Pilates looks beyond the site of pain to the movement pattern around it, and works alongside your physio to support recovery. Apparatus work — particularly reformer and Cadillac — isolates and addresses those compensations. Springs create variable resistance that challenges stability without imposing load. Asymmetry becomes visible immediately, and addressable in the same session.

What we offer

That a gym cannot.

Every session is individual. We do not put athletes through a group class and call it rehabilitation. We work one-to-one — or in very small groups — with a teacher who understands the sport, the injury history and the specific physical demands of returning to performance.

Our team includes teachers with direct classical lineage from Joseph Pilates via Jay Grimes and Amy Kellow, and Grace, a former Royal Ballet dancer, whose understanding of how the body moves under extreme physical demand brings a dimension to this work that deepens this work.

Who we work with

Individual athletes, teams, referrals.

We welcome athletes at every level, from weekend runners to semi-professional footballers, as well as teams looking for a performance and rehabilitation partner. We work in close collaboration with local physiotherapists and osteopaths, and are happy to receive patients by referral.

For referring clinicians

A trusted next step,
beyond discharge.

Physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths — we welcome referrals and are always glad to host clinicians for a tour of the studio before you send patients our way.
