The Pull-Up is one of the classical Wunda Chair exercises. You stand facing the chair, with your hands on the seat and your feet on the pedal. As the pedal rises, you lift your hips high over your hands into a pike shape, then lower the pedal again with control.
It is an advanced exercise. Chair work is not taught in a fixed order — your teacher chooses chair exercises for what you need — so you may meet the Pull-Up some time into your practice, once you are confident on the reformer and mat.
What it asks of you
- Strong, steady shoulders and arms to support your weight.
- Abdominal strength to lift the hips, rather than jumping or swinging up.
- Control on the way down, so the pedal does not drop suddenly.
Doing it safely
The spring tension on the chair changes the exercise a great deal, and the pedal can move quickly. Try the Pull-Up only with a teacher, who will set the springs, show you a gentler version if you need one, and stay close while you learn it.
