Barrels
Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector and Small Barrel — curved apparatus for extension, side work and mobility.

Purpose
The barrel family is Joseph Pilates' answer to the flexed, seated modern body. Each curved surface offers supported extension for the upper back, opening for the front of the hip, and precise side-lying work for the waist. Small, simple apparatus with disproportionate effect.
Benefits
- Reverses postural flexion — the antidote to sitting
- Trains the upper back to extend without the low back compensating
- Opens the front of the hip in a lengthened, supported way
Who it's for
- Anyone with an office desk life
- Riders, cyclists and runners tight through the hip flexors
- Older adults building safe spinal extension
Common misconceptions
- 'Barrels are just for stretching.' The strength component is significant.
Frequently asked
- Which barrel should I start with?
- The Spine Corrector — it is the gentlest and does the most for the average modern back.
