Cadillac
A raised bed with an overhead frame, springs and straps — the full studio in one apparatus.

Purpose
The Cadillac (or Trapeze Table) is the most complete single apparatus Joseph Pilates designed. Its overhead frame carries push-through bars, leg springs, arm springs, roll-down bar, trapeze and fuzzy loops — allowing spinal decompression, unloaded hip and shoulder work, and assisted or resisted movement in any plane.
Benefits
- Spinal decompression and articulation with support
- Precise, isolated joint work — ideal for rehabilitation
- Advanced hanging and inverted work when appropriate
- A single station for a full private session
Who it's for
- Rehabilitation clients — post-injury, post-surgery, post-partum
- Older adults building safe spinal mobility
- Athletes conditioning shoulders, hips and back
- Advanced clients working overhead exercises
Common misconceptions
- 'It looks intimidating.' It is one of the safest apparatus in the studio when taught with precision — a full-body scaffold.
- 'It's only for advanced clients.' The Cadillac is where beginners learn some of the safest possible movement patterns.
Frequently asked
- Is Cadillac work private-only?
- Usually, yes — its precision suits one-to-one teaching, though it also appears in duets.
- Can I use it if I have a back injury?
- Often, yes, with a specialist teacher — its supported spinal work is one of the reasons the Cadillac exists.
